Within a world of manufactured images and marketing pigeonholes, WA based four-piece Moriarty remain a labelling enigma. Moriarty are at the forefront of digital and live music production, creating their own original contemporary spin on the UK influenced and vocal based club/chill-out music of the 80's and 90's. A slick combo of bass, DJ, sax and vocals helps Moriarty re-mix their own songs into a tight fusion of funky breaks, soul, jazz, electro, house, and drum & bass. A year of reworking, refining and recording sees Moriarty's welcome return to the reality of live performance with their second album in tow. Light years ahead of the first 2002 release entitled The Professor, the new ten-track LP raises Moriarty to the international standard they were destined for and demonstrates a bigger, orchestrated musical dynamic with the recent addition of saxophone player Aaron Veale. Moriarty's need for beats ranging from 80 to 175 bpm is still there, but this time it's all big very big. Outside of the studio, live shows were rare but highlights included performances at the Australian dance music festival Vibes on a Summers Day, RTRFM's Festival In the Pines, Perth International Arts Festival with The Ku-ling Bros., YAC It Up Youth Fest and supports for French/Australian award winning artist Endorphin, The Black Eyed Peas and ARIA award winners Rogue Traders. The Moriarty performance has always been a cornerstone of the band's profile in Western Australia both in the city and the country. A highly amped Mooch on vocals working the crowd into a swirling and gyrating frenzy on the dance floor is not uncommon while bass player Steve C. and DJ Stephe P bring in the music and push the bottom end. Sax player Aaron - he gives it a whole lot of soul. All this alongside occasional VJ projections and awesome light shows has helped build the Moriarty party reputation since they started playing in 2002. Over the next twelve months, Moriarty aim to keep building this reputation both in the venues and on the airwaves and are currently planning their second trip east, this time taking in Sydney and Brisbane. With all ten tracks of their new album being worthy of your best moves, Moriarty is more than ready to tackle a new year of audiences both here and overseas. | TOP ------------------------------------------- | MORIARTY IN THE MEDIA Triple J airplay for singles and album tracks from the album "The Professor" : > "Reflex Test" , "Slow Drive Home" > "In Summer" and "Nazca" Nova 93.7 Perth - medium rotation airplay for single "Al's Lament" (from the album The Professor) and interview.
